LO1: To recognise and describe features of a market place education.
-
LO2: To recall characteristics of autistic spectrum disorder, conceptualizing the nature of the condition within educational spaces.
- LO3: Understanding how cognitive behavioural coaching concepts can be utilised, by both learners and practitioners, in inclusive educational settings.
Overview of the Session
This session will provide an introduction into the concept of market place education, namely, secondary education spaces in England where processes of marketisation have shaped schooling since the eighties. Upon identifying the motivating factors which witnessed the marketisation of education, the session will review aspects of schooling which mimic that of a business and the impacts of this upon learning today. Concurrently, learners are given the chance to recognise and evaluate aspects of their own school experiences in comparison.
Following this, an introduction into the neurodevelopmental condition autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) will be provided. Consideration towards the nature of the condition, its diversity, and the presence of the condition in mainstream secondary school will be paired with the knowledge of marketisation. Cohesively, learners have the opportunity to conceptualise the relationship between ASD and market place schooling, recognising how the two interact and whether an impact on learners with ASD persists.
The afternoon workshop will explore how the use of cognitive behavioural coaching techniques can help practitioners and learners to foster a growth mindset and enhance emotional intelligence. CBC provides strategies to support all learners, promote positive behaviour, and create an inclusive environment.
CBC can assist in developing learner resilience, self-regulation, and problem-solving skills. By focusing on practical techniques to challenge negative thought patterns and behaviours, empowering all learners to fulfil their potential in a supportive and understanding atmosphere.
