Our vision of “Changing Lives through learning” is achieved by providing high quality teaching and learning. We aim to raise the aspirations of our students through the experiences they gain by studying at CWA. This includes their main study programme, tutorial, enrichment and work experience placements.
Careers education is embedded within the college curriculum and tutorial programme. Every student and apprentice will also have opportunities to learn from employers about relevant skills valued in the workplace. This will be achieved through work placements, visiting speakers and links to employment and labour market information in the curriculum.
All students will receive the following:
- An induction programme which will make each student aware of the CEIAG opportunities, resources and support available at the college
- A CEIAG/employability tutorial programme which will be completed through self-directed study and input from Course Directors and guest speakers as appropriate.
- A rich study programme suitable for the needs of the student, taught by vocationally experienced tutors, who will challenge stereotypical thinking and will promote equality of opportunity.
- Support and input to raise awareness of the significance of labour market information and the impact of the changes in labour market skills requirements.
- Support to find suitable work placements or work experience,
- Access to inspirational talks from guest speakers to learn about the skills they need to develop to be successful in the world of employment.
- Access to information and advice about all progression pathways, including further and higher education, apprenticeships, work-based qualifications and employment.
- Access to independent and impartial career guidance from a level 4 or level 6 careers advisor to support with next step decisions and career planning.
- Encounters with outreach higher education champions and university visits.
