I completed 3 courses in total, starting with the First Diploma in Sport Level 2 in 2011. Following that I completed the Extended Diploma in Sport Level 3 in 2012 and 2013. Then I completed the NVQ Level 2 Qualification in Activity and Leadership in Sport in 2014. When I first came to college, my aspiration was to find a job in sport, however I didn’t at the time know what area of sport as an industry I wanted to work in. All I knew is that I loved sports.
The year I started college was also the first year CWA moved their sports department over to Lynnsport. This offered an environment for the sports campus to have access to some of the best sports facilities in the area. Over the 3 courses I completed, it helped me learn about all areas of sport and physical activity as an industry, this included coaching, sports development, business, nutrition, personal training as well as many other important aspects of sport. I enjoyed many of the topics we learnt about but as I went through my second and third year, I realised I really enjoyed the coaching side of sport. This pushed me to take on another year's course in the Qualification in Activity and Leadership in Sport which had a much more hands on approach and helped me gain a huge amount of experience, experience I have used every day in my career.
I always felt it was a fun environment, having good tutors for all aspects of each course and they all helped you every step of the way. We had the opportunity to learn so many new and different sports and activities and a brilliant facility which was always great fun. Following completion of all 3 courses, I started working for the CWA Sports Campus, getting other courses that were outside of the sports campus to try new and different activities. Alongside this, I was also coaching for the King’s Lynn Community Football programme, mainly with the schools department that aimed to improve and help young children in the area to receive better education in PE in school time.
All 3 courses helped gain a vital level of knowledge and experience which was very transferable to many different areas of life as well as my future career. I am currently the Centre Manager for Fenrock Climbing, based in Wisbech. We are a dedicated Bouldering facility for a sport that has been a huge passion of mine for many years, as well as offering a friendly social space with a cafe and gym training area. My role involves all aspects of managing the centre, from cleaning to coaching. I work behind the reception desk and meet the people that come to use the facility as well as organising the operations behind the scenes.
Any chance I get, I always like to say a huge thank you to the team of staff at the Sports Campus at CWA. They helped me in so many ways and I have a lot to thank them for over the years.
