I chose to study at CWA as I knew I wanted to focus on sport and felt I would have a better chance to find a career pathway. I love playing cricket and wanted to see where I could take my skills in that. I knew I wasn’t overly academic, and sixth form wasn’t for me. College was also a challenge, but I chose it for a fresh start.
I enjoyed learning about leadership and coaching. I like the psychological side, which helped shape my coaching career and explore people motivations.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at CWA. Although college was challenging, the atmosphere was excellent. There were lots of opportunities to play sport, as well as learn so much about all the different areas of sport, which eventually lead me to choosing my pathway in coaching. The tutors and course director were fantastic – making it a comfortable and enjoyable environment to learn in. I learnt a lot from some fantastic people, they were always supportive with everything and everyone.
I am currently working with Cambridge Cricket as a Performance Foundation Pathway Lead Officer. This involves me overseeing the foundation of age groups within the County Structure. I also work for the Hungarian Cricket Association as the Men’s International Team Head Coach and I have my own business, Paul Edgeller Cricket. This involves me delivering cricket coaching in all local primary and secondary schools, club training sessions for both/senior and junior members, 1:1 and small group sessions as well as holiday camps.
I have completed my Advanced Coaching course, Level 3. I am now in the process of applying for my Level 4 ECB Specialist Coaches course, which would be the final course to complete. This is essentially a degree for coaching cricket at the highest level and will take two and a half years to complete. Alongside this, I am looking to explore the psychological side of sport through courses. This will help gain the best coaching opportunities around the world.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at college and am grateful for the opportunities, trust and guidance given to me from all the tutors. It’s helped shape my career and great passion in life, cricket coaching.
