My future aspirations were to become a professional coach and to start my own company or become a professional coach in hockey.
I chose CWA, as it was the only college that offered this type of course. I thought that I could do well, and it would fill my passion for sports. The Sports campus felt so welcoming. It felt more like a community and supportive, not like any other college I had looked at.
The main content of my course was learning how to coach different age groups and abilities. I enjoyed learning about the different careers you can go into within sports. I particularly enjoyed looking into new and different sports, as well as coaching a wide range of participants and experiencing how sports affects, and positively impacts, a community.
My memories at CWA will always be positive as it had a significant impact on my life.
CWA helped me to get a job with Alive Leisure, which has given me experience and understanding of how a coaching company works and helped me to improve my overall coaching experience, giving me a good start at university when I start in September. CWA have also been great support when applying to university and doing my personal statement.
I am currently working as a casual Activity and Sports Development Leader. My role involves me assisting in the preparation and removal of all the sports equipment and to provide all players with clear instructions about their session. I ensure the safety and wellbeing of players and understand safeguarding procedures. I complete any tasks that the Head Coach may need, leading activities with participants and ensuring they’re safe whilst taking part. I coach activities to a variety of participants.
CWA is a great college and has given me plenty of opportunities. The Sports campus has amazing teaching staff who were always dedicated to their students’ learning, being supportive and kind in everything they did. The Sports campus has a great atmosphere, where everyone was allowed to express themselves as individuals. We also had a great range of facilities.
On completion of my course, I plan to study BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching at Sheffield Hallam University.
