Holly has been working with Paddons Veterinary Surgeons for 18 years and is now taking an Apprenticeship Standard in Veterinary Nursing Level 3.
Holly’s apprenticeship involves learning different tasks and skills in the veterinary profession, such as nursing and caring for different animals in different conditions, administering medication, preparing and assisting with surgical procedures and monitoring anaesthetics. Holly comes to college one day a week from 9am until 4pm.
As Holly is a mature student, she decided an apprenticeship was the best option for her, rather than studying a full-time course. CWA is close to home, which suited her work and family life balance. Working four days per week in the practice and one day at college to learn the theory is ideal for her.
Holly said, “I plan to stay at my practice, and I have seen lots of Continuous Professional Development courses that I am interested in studying. I am also glad I have been given this opportunity to pursue my career and develop myself. I have developed new skills and knowledge to use in the workplace, applying my theory and practical to everyday work.”
