Helen is an Environmental and Sustainability Advisor within the SHEQ team in the @One Alliance (Barhale). The main sustainability or green skills priorities for Helen’s area of the business are the use of greener fuels and better, more sustainable welfare units that use green energies that are practical and reliable to use.
Helen explained, “Before the Bootcamp, we were addressing sustainability skills through encouraging site teams to start thinking more sustainably with proper segregation of waste and compliance with simpler recycling, also the use of recycled aggregates and reducing the amount of muckaway entering landfill. I did not have prior knowledge of carbon sustainability, and this was a weak point my manager identified within our team.
The Bootcamp has encouraged me to organise a seminar/talk with the rest of the team on carbon sustainability. This stemmed from a bootcamp guest speaker, Matt Pluke. The tutors and facilities at CWA are extremely good. I would encourage anyone considering the sustainability skills bootcamp to take the course, it’s been very beneficial so far. Shared knowledge is power and the course will make a positive impact to our generation and wider company.”
