Our level 2 understanding children and young peoples mental health course develops the skills needed to understand mental health conditions that affect people, the legislation and guidance surrounding mental health, risk factors that may affect mental well-being and the impact that mental health concerns may have on young people and others.
Unit 1: Understand children and young peoples mental health in context Learn about the concept of mental health and how societys view of mental health has changed over time. Discover the legislation in place to support mental health.
Unit 2: Understand factors which may affect children and young peoples mental health This unit uncovers the risk factors that can affect young peoples mental health and how these can be mitigated. Explore developmental changes and how puberty can impact mental health.
Unit 3: Understand children and young peoples mental health concerns Discover the behaviours displayed that may indicate a mental health concern. Find out about common mental health conditions that affect children and young people.
Unit 4: Understand the impact of children and young peoples mental health concerns Investigate the impact of mental health concerns on children, young people and others and develop an understanding of the importance of diagnosis and the reasons why children and young people may be reluctant to seek a diagnosis.
Unit 5: Understand how to support children and young people with mental health concerns Here you will explore person-centred approaches to supporting children and young people with mental health concerns, how to promote mental well-being, and the services and treatment involved with children mental health.

Depending on your age, course, educational history and personal circumstances, there may be options available for you to receive a course fully-funded by the government. Our fee calculator will help give you an idea on whether you'll be able to have your course fee waived or covered by an Advanced Learner Loan.
If you are aged 19 - 24 at the start of your course and have an active Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), any course up to and including level 3 will be fully-funded by the government. This means you will not have a course fee to pay and any equipment considered essential to complete your course will be provided by the college.
