Course Description
Holders of the Certificate are entitled to Associate Membership (AIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). The Course consists of a minimum of 68 taught hours and a minimum of 40 hours self study. The course is split into 2 units of study, each of which is assessed separately:
- Unit NG1 - Management of Health and Safety covering: Why we should manage workplace health and safety; How health and safety management systems work and what they look like; Managing risk - understanding people and processes; Health and safety monitoring and measuring.
- Unit NG2 - Risk Assessments covering: Physical and psychological health; Musculoskeletal health; Chemical and biological agents, General workplace issues; Work equipment, Fire and Electricity.
- How to effectively manage health and safety
- How to identify and control common workplace hazards
- How to measure if you have been successful
- Understanding of the UK's key legal requirements
- Confidently carry out risk assessments
- Develop and implement a detailed action plan
- Manage and minimise workplace risks
- Support and develop your company's health and safety culture.

How is my course assessed?

The course is split into 2 units, exam dates are set by NEBOSH and take place throughout the year. The Course consists of a minimum of 68 taught hours and a minimum of 40 hours self study.

NG1, an open book examination to assess what you know, this is scenario based and will include a closing interview where you will be asked questions about your submission.

NG2, a practical risk assessment to assess what you can do, submitting a completed risk assessment and develop an action plan for your workplace.
