Sustainability and Environmental Management Skills Bootcamp - Part-Time

Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and provides clear career pathways, mentorship and advancement opportunities.

The course, for adults who live or work in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough region, demonstrates the local commitment to workforce development and excellence in sustainability and environmental management.

The course will ensure that you are well-prepared, skilled and ready to contribute to improving the sustainability and environmental management of not only your workplace but the local communities too!

What will I cover on this course?

There are 3 modules delivered over 10 weeks.

Module 1 - Carbon Literacy

• What Greenhouse Gases are, and their relationship to weather and climate
• How climate here and elsewhere is likely to change, and how we know this
• How changes in the climate are likely to affect us locally, regionally, in our country, and in other parts of the world
• How our actions impact on the amount of greenhouse gases produced and the impact that they have
• What we can do to reduce our impact and the benefits and disadvantages of taking action
• What we are already doing locally, nationally, and internationally
• Where we can go to get help
• What help is available to us locally
• How we can motivate others to take action, including gaining the confidence to express our Carbon Literacy to others

Module 2 - IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management

• Outline the implications of global trends for the environment, for society, the economy, and organisations
• Outline sustainable business/governance principles and their relationship with organisations, products, and services Technical Knowledge: Outline environmental principles and their relationship with organisations, products, and services Outline major policy and legislation and their implications for organisations, products, and services
• Outline major tools, techniques, systems, and practices used to improve sustainability performance
• Outline the role of innovation and other leading practices in developing sustainable products and services and providing sustainable solutions Knowledge of skills Knowledge of Skills:
• Collect data, perform analysis, and evaluate information
• Research and plan to provide sustainable solutions
• Deliver effective communication methods and capture feedback
• Engage with stakeholders
• Outline tools and techniques that identify opportunities and risks
• Identify and propose ways to improve performance

Module 3 - Sustainability Leadership Skills

• Understanding of terms such as Greenwashing

This specially tailored course has been meticulously designed to address the specific requirements and demands of local employers. The term "bespoke" aptly describes the customized nature of this educational programme, as it has been intricately crafted to align with the unique needs and expectations of these major industry players. The focus of this course is to equip you with the precise skills and knowledge that employers sought after, ensuring that you are well-prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities within these respected organisations.

Whilst there are no academic entry requirements for the course, applicants MUST be at least aged 19 on or before 31st August 2024 and be living or working in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough region to study this course. You must also be unemployed (or employed with an interest in changing careers to work in environmental management).

You will be invited to an interview to ensure that the bootcamp is the right course for you.

You should also be able to work in the UK and meet our general residency criteria.

This course will run from 5.30pm - 8.30pm each Monday and Wednesday for 10 weeks.

What qualification will I achieve?

On successful completion of the course you will achieve:

• Carbon Literacy Certificate
• IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management, you will also receive a one-year members associate membership with IEMA

How is my course assessed?

You will be assessed through:

• Completion of all assessment tasks
• Carbon Literacy Pledge
• IEMI Foundation Certificate - final exam
