Are you interested in becoming at governor at CWA?

Being a governor at the College of West Anglia allows you to contribute to the development of the core strategic aims of the college and help improve opportunities for over 7500 students studying a wide range of courses from foundation through to degree level.

Governors have the welfare of the college as a whole at the forefront of their minds and are committed to serving the local community with the provision of a quality educational experience for all.

What are we looking for?

As a governor you bring your expertise, energy and commitment to the college, as it navigates through the ever-changing world of education, to support all of our stakeholders. You will have a specific interest in the provision of a first class education for our students.

Our board has representatives with experience in industry, business, law, education, local authority and finance/audit. We are keen to involve people with a broad range of experience from all backgrounds and ages.

Being a governor is an unpaid voluntary position. You will need to attend five board meetings, lasting a morning, and two half-day planning/training sessions per year. You will also serve on a sub-committee of the board which meets up to four/five times per year, depending on their work; these meetings usually last around 2 hours.

All meetings take place on a Wednesday morning and are generally held at the King’s Lynn campus, with the exception of two, held at the Wisbech and Cambridge campuses respectively.

In addition to attending meetings, our governors will need to make time to read meeting papers. Guidance and support will be offered from the very beginning, starting with an induction programme. We encourage all of our governors to participate in ongoing training and development.

Governors are not involved in the day-to-day running of the college, which is managed by the Principal and his team. However, there are numerous opportunities to attend events such as awards evenings and presentations, and to participate in learning walks, to help get a better understanding of what happens at the college.

What's in it for me?

As a governor, you will bring valuable experience to the board to support and challenge senior leaders. Being a governor is an opportunity for you to ‘give back’ to the local community, enhance your CV and make a positive contribution to the college and the local area.
