City: Bristol
Bristol’s reputation is as one of the most thriving and exciting technology hubs in the UK. The city recently became the UK’s top smart city, and was ranked the 12th best European city for tech investment, which currently stands at £109million. It’s no surprise then that Bristol’s start-up success rate is above the national average.

Industry: Media & Creative
City: Manchester
Manchester has the fastest growing creative and media industry outside of London, but also benefits from lower living costs and house prices. Manchester is also home to the BBC, 7500 creative and tech companies, plus many top advertising and media agencies. Manchester is also a young, cosmopolitan city with plenty of social life, boasting the most 20-34 year olds in the UK.

Industry: Construction
City: London
It’s no surprise that England’s capital would feature somewhere on this list. In the latest construction report by the Office for National Statistics , it was found that 14% of all construction employees, and 16% of construction firms, in Great Britain are based in London. Galliford Try, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty are just a few of the companies who centralise their operations in the city.

Industry: Business & Finance
City: Leeds
Leeds is the fastest growing city in the UK, with finance and business services accounting for 38% of the city’s total output. Over 25,000 businesses calling Leeds home, including a number of well-established companies such as Asda Group, First Direct, BT, Direct Line group and Yorkshire Bank.
In addition to having a thriving £18 billion economy, Leeds is also a bustling, student city with plenty of culture. From the O2 arena to Leeds Festival, The Thackery Museum to The Cottage Road Cinema, there is no shortage of things to see and do.
