Clara finished studying Animal Management Level 3 Extended Diploma in 2018 and returned to learning in 2021 to study FdSc Veterinary Nursing and Applied Animal Behaviour. Clara chose to return to education at Cambridge campus as she had previously studied at CWA and had a positive experience studying her level 3. Clara knew Cambridge would suit herself as she preferred the classroom environment compared to a lecture hall, allowing you more personal learning and interaction with the tutors and fellow classmates.

Clara said, “Returning to education can seem daunting. However, as I have worked within the industry during my gap in education, I was able to apply this knowledge to my degree. You may also find that your mindset to education has changed since being at school, as you are studying a subject that you want to pursue a career in.”

The main content of the course revolves around practical veterinary nursing of companion animals. As with all courses, you must complete work experience. Clara added, “I really enjoyed my placement blocks, specifically caring for animals throughout the surgery process as well as learning about the ethics involved in all areas of human-animal interaction.”

Cambridge campus, located in Milton, is a pleasant environment with a small animal unit and a wide range of areas to conduct self-directed study, such as the Learning Resource Centre. Clara said, “I particularly enjoy the LRC as it gives me a change of environment from being at home when studying, and there is a variety of books which are resourceful for assignments. The lecturers have industry experience and knowledge as vets, registered veterinary nurses and animal scientists. They are always encouraging questions and keep everyone engaged during lectures by incorporating activities, which is always helpful to develop my learning.”

Clara hopes to find a job in a small animal veterinary practice, and in the future would like to work towards becoming a zoo nurse.
