Early Years Practitioner - Apprenticeship - Level 2

You can work in a range of settings including full day care, children's centres, preschool, reception classes and childminders. You will learn and be confident in working on your own or supervising others to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by Government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.

You will need:

• An employer lined up who is starting you as an apprentice
• GCSE grade 3 or above in English and maths
• A suitable employer who is available to start you as an apprentice
• A current/satisfactory DBS check

An interview will be required to identify your potential, commitment and motivation to achieve the apprenticeship. We will also use the interview as an opportunity to discuss your employer. Depending on your level of English and Maths, you may be asked to complete an initial assessment to show your ability to complete a further level 2 qualification in English and / or Maths.

What qualification will I achieve?

• Early Years Practitioner Standard
• TQUK Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years workforce
• Functional skills in Maths and English at level 2

How is my course assessed?

You will build an e-portfolio of evidence towards the diploma and will be assessed in the workplace using a range of methods, for example written assignments, case study work, reflective accounts and practical observation etc. An Assessor will visit you in the workplace on a regular basis in order to support you. Functional skills, if necessary, are assessed through examinations following taught sessions at a college location. During your apprenticeship you will produce a portfolio of good practice to support the end point assessment at the end of the apprenticeship. The end point assessment is carried out by an independent and impartial assessor and includes:

• Observation of practice
• Competence interview (based on your portfolio)
